Earthly Reflections
I have always
loved the earth. Been enraptured by the diversity, the beauty, the synastry
and its perfection. I have always loved to paint as well and prefer the
fluid lightness of watercolors above all mediums. Throughout my life my
paintings have tended to be most rewarding to me and appealing to others
when the theme was of nature. For years I failed to see that there was
a message in this simple reality. But two seemingly unrelated events changed
that.
In April of 2000, I became a Practitioner
and Advanced Practitioner of the EMF Balancing Technique® and began
an intentional change in my life. Using the techniques I learned to manage
electromagnetic energy within my energy anatomy, I put out a seed of light
to activate my potential, whatever that was.
In February of 2001 I had the privilege
of participating in a workshop with a co-founder of the Findhorn Community
and Gardens in Scotland. Findhorn is located on a sandy fjord, with soil
so poor it could barely support a weed, let alone magnificent flowers
and vegetables. Yet magnificent is the only term for what was grown there.
The success and fame of these gardens, starting in the 1970s could only
have happened with telepathic contacts with the Devic Kingdoms and the
guidance provided by these "nature spirits".
In the past such contacts, even with
demonstrable results, were often met with skepticism. Today however, science
supports the theory of a unified field of intelligence, and applications
of expanded perception are becoming far more common. The military, for
example, teaches people to perform remote viewing. If the unified field
of intelligence is everywhere then everything in that field is intelligent.
The expression of that intelligence takes on a variety of forms but is
always present and we are learning new ways to both understand and tap
into it. Our universe is becoming understood as a vast, intelligent communication
system that manifests in form and experience.
My seed of light bloomed, carrying
me out of my public service job through an early retirement. In my new
found freedom I had time to consider what I really wanted. The walls that
separated the energy work from the painting began to dissolve. It was
only then that I began to explore the concept of a more connected approach
to painting, one in which nature was not objectified, but rather invited
to be interactive. I wanted to build an interactive relationship in which
energy was the vehicle for communication and expression. I had learned
methods to communicate with nature spirits and I had developed skills
for working with energy. Could they be combined?
My first attempts in approaching this
collaboration produced poetic and insightful words that flowed as quickly
and as fleetingly as do dreams. I found the role of scribe an easy fit.
But the paintings were rigid and lacked evidence of sustained interaction
throughout the creative process. My lessons were many; pearls of explanation
revealed one unsuccessful painting at a time! But there was a continuity
and truthfulness in the messages that was easy to accept but hard to represent.
I needed to bring the experience of my training and skills to the easel
but I needed to abandon my rigid, mechanistic techniques and my ego. I
also needed to allow the same energetic flow that brought in the words,
to merge with the water and the medium. But more than anything, I needed
to learn to be a partner in the process. And my role in this partnership
is as much that of a vessel as it is artist.
The subject choices for the GeoGraphics
project come from whatever captures my attention in the moment. These
attractions generally occur when I am not engaged in “the hunt”
and when my focus is just one of appreciation in general for my environment.
In fact, the more appreciative I feel, the greater the chance that I will
feel the subtle urging to look, to “see” and to “listen”.
The work continues to evolve for nothing is static. Yet the images, frozen
frames of time, hold open the fleeting "now" in approximation.
May the underlying energy kindle the magic of the world we have forgotten
but can remember.
